Barangay History

Barangay Marinas is the 36th barangay situated in the City of Sorsogon. Consequently, no individual can definitively state how it came into existence. However, there is a prevailing hearsay that Marinas has been an existing barangay since the 1960s onwards.

Many years had passed; an English businessman happened to pass by and was fascinated by the scenery of the unknown lot (MARINAS). He also asked some people who were in the vicinity. The businessman uttered, "Who is the proprietor of this land?" An old woman responded, "The owner of this land is none other than 'Marina'." Then, the businessman said, "Oh! It's Marina's lot pala." Thereafter, the majority of the people laughed, possibly due to the statement of the English businessman.

From then on, people residing in the place became accustomed to calling it by the name given by the English businessman. So if a stranger were to ask them about the place they are in, their reply would be 'Marinas'.

In like manner, Marinas was a part of Barangay Abuyog. It became an independent barangay when it reached the required population. The land area is more or less 172.20 hectares. The majority of inhabitants here plant root crops in order to make a living.

Indeed, Marinas is situated in the east of Sorsogon, nearby the Municipality of Gubat. It is approximately 13 kilometers from the poblacion.
